Texas Elder Exploitation Project

The Texas Elder Exploitation Project can help senior citizens prevent financial exploitation and can help senior citizens who find they have been victims of financial exploitation. A senior citizen financial exploitation legal hotline will be up and running early in 2011. Consumer education and other self-help material will be available to groups in early 2011. Texas Legal Services Center will be holding seminars for groups through the year beginning in the summer 2011.

The Texas Elder Exploitation Project was made possible by a three–year grant received in the fall of 2010 from the U.S. Administration on Aging to develop models for statewide legal assistance systems that coordinate the efforts of senior legal helplines, Older American Act (OAA)-funded legal assistance, Legal Aid, other nonprofit legal resources, private bar pro bono activities, and self-help sites to ensure maximum impact for seniors from limited resources.
