Contract Attorney, TexasLawHelp.org
The TexasLawHelp.org contract attorney is responsible for revising and drafting TexasLawHelp legal content. The contract attorney in this position must maintain the highest ethical and professional standards; embrace and support TLSC’s overall mission; and comply with all grant requirements, regulations, standards, and confidentiality requirements.
The contract attorney will perform the following work:

Ensure TexasLawHelp.org is accurate, updated, and free of spelling and grammar errors while being accessible and easily understood.

Draft, edit, and update legal information publications, tools, and forms for TexasLawHelp.org.

Create and maintain TexasLawHelp.org content, including legal information publications, videos, guides, interactive forms, print forms, and other material for TexasLawHelp.org.

Coordinate projects between TexasLawHelp.org and other TLSC programs.

Coordinate projects between TexasLawHelp.org and organizations outside of TLSC, including Texas Access to Justice Foundation grantees.

Identify the need for publications to assist self-represented litigants for TexasLawHelp.org.

Ensure all client, project, and computer files are maintained in an orderly manner.

Provide all information needed/requested for TLSC-reporting in a prompt manner.
Education/Licensure (Required)

J.D. Degree

Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas within six months of hire date
Experience (Preferred)
Minimum of 2 years of law experience
Knowledge & Skills (Required)

Excellent legal research and writing skills.

Strong skills in explaining complex legal topics to non-lawyers.

Familiarity with or willingness to learn the style conventions in TexasLawHelp.org style guide, the Chicago Manual of Style, and the Redbook.

Current knowledge and expertise of the law and legal system.

Exceptional verbal, listening, and written communications skills.

Proficiency with (or the ability to learn) Adobe, Microsoft Office products, Google Workspace, Drupal 9 (TexasLawHelp.org’s content management system).

Understanding of grant requirements and associated reporting needs.

Ability to enter information into TLSC systems accurately.

Experience using or ability to learn technology, including virtual meeting software/technology, such as Zoom or Skype.

High-level organizational skills.

Strong time management skills and attentiveness to detail.
