2023 Spring Law Clerk, Impact Litigation

 

The Impact Litigation Team (ILT) of Texas Legal Services Center brings about social justice by providing a voice for individuals who want systemic change. We file suits and take action against perpetrators of discrimination and official misconduct while defending consumer rights, free speech, and privacy. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The ILT’s Law Clerk Program provides an opportunity for law students to join us in fighting for people’s rights across Texas and to gain experience in public interest law.  Some responsibilities may include investigating potential cases, interacting with current and potential clients, being involved in internal strategy meetings, conducting in-depth legal research and writing, and drafting complaints, interrogatories, and other discovery requests. 

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN

 

You’ll be working closely with attorneys who have years of experience in complex litigation and civil rights law. Depending on our current cases, clients, and projects, learning opportunities may include:   

Responding to Motions

Assisting with Depositions 

Assisting with Hearings 

Assisting with Mediation

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPENSATION

Currently enrolled as a 2L or 3L in an accredited law school. Must possess a demonstrated commitment to social justice and exemplary legal writing. Ability to speak Spanish comfortably with clients is preferred but not required.  Grade submission for this position is not requested or required. 

This is an unpaid internship. Reporting and oversight available for course credit during the 2023 Spring Semester.
