Paralegal Internship, Legal Hotline for Texans

 

The Legal Hotline for Texans gives advice and counsel to all callers with Medicare and Medicaid questions. We can also answer a broader variety of calls to those over 60 years of age including advance directives, long term care, defense of guardianship, economic security and exploitation, abuse, neglect, and fraud (as funding allows). We also train staff and volunteers at Area Agencies on Aging to assist their clients with Medicare/Medicaid issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be working with our team to provide administrative support to the Legal Hotline for Texans program. You will work with attorneys to contact potential clients for income eligibility, enter data into case management systems, research questions from clients, and log phone calls from LHT voicemail. 

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN

You will interact with clients and learn various aspects of Medicare and Medicaid, including program eligibility and substantive law. In addition, you will also learn:

Client Communication Skills 

Interpersonal Office Skills

Case Management Technology

Data Entry

Research Techniques 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPENSATION

Currently enrolled in an accredited paralegal certification program.

This is an unpaid internship. Reporting and oversight available for course credit.
