Medical-Legal Partnership Internship, Summer 2026
The Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) team at Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) is looking for a law student to assist with legal research, drafting legal documents, and corresponding with clients. This position will provide an opportunity for law students to gain valuable experience while providing free services to clients experiencing health issues.
About the Program
The Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) Team is a group of attorneys who work in health clinics across Austin, providing free legal services to patients at each clinic to address health-harming legal needs. The MLP team works across various areas of civil law, including, but not limited to, Family Law, Social Security Disability, Estate Planning and Advance Directives, and Housing. Each MLP attorney maintains a close relationship with the clinic they serve and provides training to clinic staff on a variety of topics.
The Type of Work You'll Be Doing
The MLP intern will have client-facing interactions and provide support to the attorneys by performing client intake, legal research, and legal document drafting. The intern will work alongside the MLP managing attorney and two staff attorneys. They may also interact with other TLSC staff members as clients receive inter-office referrals to other teams. They will be expected to attend regular team meetings and join the MLP attorneys at their respective clinics during the week.
Responsibilities:
• Over-the-phone client intake
• Legal research
• Draft legal documents for attorney review
• Enter data into case management system
• Assist with attorney-led trainings for clinic staff

QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled 1L law student or higher
LOCATION
Hybrid - Austin TX
TIME COMMITMENT
15-40 hours per week during the summer of 2026
