Client Story: Mother Able to Plan Last Wishes

Legally planning for loss-of-health or the transfer of an estate can be luxuries beyond reach for many Texans and their families.

I would like to thank Texas Legal Services Center for the assistance my mother received on a Transfer of Deed prepared by Attorney Paul Zambie. Mr. Zambie gave me, her daughter and POA, the information I needed to give my mother peace of mind and know that her wishes in leaving her house to her three children would be fulfilled.

My mother had a 4th grade education and lost her mother at age nine. She helped many people young and old. She always walked everywhere or took the bus. In January 2019, momma had a stroke, which most people couldn’t tell except for her speech. Sometimes she lost her balance so my two siblings and myself never left her alone.

On August 19, 2020, momma fell and broke her hip getting out of the car leaving her mostly in a wheelchair for safety reasons. Momma was placed on Hospice after her hip fracture.

Caring for her became too much for my siblings and in October 2020 she came to live with my husband and me. I am her second child and a registered nurse. Caring for her these last three months was an honor yet difficult because I work nights, but thankfully from the comfort of my home.

Her dream of leaving her house to her children was fulfilled because of your services.

At the very end, Momma was saddened by leaving her home. She missed her plants and the many fruit trees she had planted over the course of 50 years. We would take her to visit her home until it became too difficult to put her in the car safely.

Momma expressed gratitude for not being placed in a nursing home which I am so thankful for. By the grace of God, my husband and I managed to keep her safe until she passed away on January 25, 2021 at the age of 88. Her dream of leaving her house to her children was fulfilled because of your services. Thank you. I am forever grateful.
