How did you first hear about Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC)? What inspired you to become involved?

I first came across TLSC through Kirkland’s pro bono program. TLSC is a referral source for Transfer on Death Deeds, which allow individuals to pre-determine ownership of their real property after their passing without going through probate. I’ve been fortunate to work on numerous TODD matters referred to us by TLSC.

TLSC is a mission-driven organization empowering communities in need. Sometimes we can get so lost in our daily lives that we forget to lend a hand to those who need it most. I think there’s few things in life more inspirational than building others up—this is what TLSC is all about and the reason I strive to remain involved.

How has volunteering with TLSC impacted your life?

It has helped keep me grounded and given me a sense of fulfillment and personal satisfaction.

What was/is your favorite part of volunteering with Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC)?

I love the people - both the clients and the TLSC team. Paul Zambie taught me everything I know about Transfer on Death Deeds. The best part is seeing the lasting impact of our work on people who need it most. No closing dinner can beat that.

What advice would you give someone considering volunteering for TLSC?

It’s a no brainer – do it! Here's a little secret: you'll get more out of it than what you put in.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of volunteering with TLSC?

Golfing, trying new foods and spending time with my three pets and my incredible fiancé.

Anything else you would like to share?

Justice shouldn't depend on what you can afford, and TLSC lives that every day. To my fellow attorneys, especially those who came from humble beginnings like me: we got here because someone opened a door for us. Let's keep holding it open.
