Pro Bono Spotlight: Mary-Michael Robertson
To celebrate National Pro Bono Week, we're highlighting a few of the amazing people who help make our work possible. Through our volunteer programming, attorneys and law students work with TLSC staff to expand our life-changing legal services to even more Texans. In today's spotlight, we would like to introduce to you Mary-Michael Robertson.

How did you first hear about Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC)? What inspired you to become involved?
I first heard about TLSC through the pro bono coordination program at Kirkland & Ellis (where I am a third-year associate in the Environmental Transactions practice group) and was inspired by TLSC’s mission. I practice environmental transactional law, but I have long had an interest in land use and real estate work as well, so assisting TLSC’s clients with Texas Transfer on Death Deeds is a fulfilling way of continuing to work in those areas while also serving the community.
How has volunteering with TLSC impacted your life?
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every conversation with TLSC’s pro bono clients, and it is a
privilege to have the opportunity to assist clients with gathering the necessary
information, drafting, and filing Texas Transfer on Death Deeds. Through this
representation, we’ve assisted clients with avoiding the probate process with respect to
their real property and inexpensively designating a beneficiary to own their real property
after their deaths.
What are your hobbies or interests outside of volunteering with TLSC?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family; spending time outdoors
exploring parks, farmers’ markets, and rails-to-trails bike trails; and visiting local coffee
shops, record stores, bookstores, theaters (like the Texas Theatre in Dallas!), and live
music venues.
